Utility Water Meter Technician

Summarized Position Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Utilities Supervisor, Water Meter Technicians are responsible to install, troubleshoot, repair, replace, read, and inspect water meters. As a Water Meter Technician, you will be required to maintain records and appropriate documentation with the use of field-based hardware/software related to the metering program. In addition to having a proven mechanical aptitude, a Water Meter Technician will need to have exceptional customer service skills and will need to be comfortable entering residential and commercial properties. Preference will be given to those with previous experience and/or training with public water supply systems.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- 3 years’ experience in installation, repair, and maintenance of water meters or in a related field
- Confined Space Awareness training
- Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) Certification Level I
- Occupational First Aid Level I
- WHMIS 2015
- Current Police Information Check
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
- Water Engineering Technology Diploma (or similar) (Preferred)
- Cross Connection Control Tester and/or Inspector Certification (Preferred)
- Experience with water meter reading hardware and software (Preferred)
- Practical knowledge and experience of water metering programs
- Practical knowledge of plumbing and pipefitting practices including the use of related tools
- Proven mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience in a related field
- Possess strong customer service and inter-personal skills, exercising courtesy and tact in the exchange of routine information with members of the public
- Knowledge of the use of a metal detector for the purpose of locating underground utilities
- Ability to work on elevated areas and in confined spaces by following applicable Safe Work Procedures
- Sound experience and knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office Suite
- Good physical condition with sufficient strength and stamina to perform manual work outside, in the presence of all types of weather conditions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, exercise sound judgment, work effectively under pressure and within tight timelines
- Ability to work flexible hours
